Post-SGF 2026: The Games Actually Worth Playing Right Now
Honest recommendations after Summer Game Fest 2026 — my shortlist of games worth your time, plus the ones to skip or wait on
Eh, Monday June 8, 2026 — SGF has ended, your brain is fried from trailers, and now the real question is: what the hell is actually worth playing?
Here’s my no-filter post-SGF shortlist. I watched everything, filtered out the corporate slop, and these are the games I’m personally putting on my radar right now.
Top Tier – Actually Worth Playing / Pre-Order Consideration
Blade Chimera 2 (2026) The sequel to the excellent action-adventure metroidvania. SGF showed tight combat, beautiful pixel art, and a proper single-player focus. No live-service nonsense. This one looks like a day-one buy, loooks…
Ender Magnolia (Late 2026) The follow-up to Ender Lilies. Gorgeous hand-drawn art, solid souls-like combat, and strong narrative. One of the few big SGF reveals that felt honest and complete.
A Tiny Wander (Mid 2026) Cozy exploration game from a small studio. Charming world, relaxing gameplay, and zero predatory monetization. Perfect palate cleanser after all the AAA noise.
Solid Mid Tier – Worth Watching Closely
Mixtape (Already out / expanding) The music-infused adventure got more content shown. Still looks fun and well-optimized. Worth picking up if you haven’t already.
Forza Horizon 6 – Japan Edition (Already released) Still one of the best open-world racers. If you skipped it earlier, the SGF expansion content looked solid. Good on consoles, needs tweaking on mid-range PC. Now you can drive like they do in Fast and Furious 3.
Alabaster Dawn (Early Access) From the CrossCode devs. Action RPG with excellent combat. Early Access version is already very playable.
Clear Skips / Big Pok Gai Energy
That new Ubisoft live-service Star Wars game Another always-online shooter with battle passes. Looks exactly like every other failed live-service attempt. Hard skip.
The “re-imagined” classic franchise turned into GaaS Beautiful trailer, zero gameplay, heavy emphasis on “community features.” We all know how this ends.
Vague AAA open-world slop with 2027 window You know the ones — shiny CGI, no real gameplay, massive marketing budget. Wait for actual reviews in 2027… if it even comes out.
My Post-SGF 2026 Playing Strategy
Prioritise Blade Chimera 2 and Ender Magnolia first.
Fill the gaps with cozy indies like A Tiny Wander.
Only touch big AAA if they have strong reviews after 2–3 weeks.
Keep your backlog under control — quality over quantity.
SGF 2026 had some genuine highlights, especially from smaller teams. The industry is still addicted to live-service, but there are still good games coming if you’re selective.
Don’t chase every shiny trailer. Play what actually respects your time.
Stay toxic but selective,
