The 2026 RAM Shortage + Steam Machine Mess Is Peak Industry Cope — Here’s the Only Survival Guide That Doesn’t Lie to You

Yo, listen up you bunch of PokGai degenerates.

2026 isn’t a “shortage.” It’s a full-on RAMmageddon caused by AI data centers sucking up 70% of high-end memory production. DDR5 kits that were $100–$200 in late 2025? Now starting at $350–$450 for basic 32GB (2x16GB), with some reports showing 200–400% spikes depending on speed and capacity. 64GB kits are flirting with $700+ in places. Even DDR4 is getting squeezed as production lines pivot to high-margin HBM and server DRAM for the AI hyperscalers.

Valve is feeling it too. Their new Steam Machine (along with Steam Frame and Controller) was supposed to hit early 2026. Now they’re openly admitting memory and storage shortages are kicking their ass. They updated their wording from “we hope to ship in 2026” to “we will be shipping this year,” but everyone with half a brain knows delays and higher prices are incoming. Steam Deck 2 rumors? Pushed toward 2028–2029 because of the same RAM/NAND nightmare.

Meanwhile Microsoft is laughing all the way to the bank with Project Helix — next Xbox that runs both console and PC games natively, Xbox Mode rolling out to Windows 11 this April. They’re turning Xbox into a living-room PC while the rest of us fight over scraps of DRAM.
